We're Growing

It's hard to believe how much we have grown this year. We made sunflowers to show how much we have grown. First we painted our hands yellow and used our handprints to make the petals of the sunflower.

It was very ticklish to paint our hands. We heard lots of giggles.

Then we filled out information about us on the leaves. We all wrote our names! Either by ourselves or by tracing letters.

We cut the leaves out all by ourselves. We are getting really good at cutting with scissors.

Mrs. Jennifer measured us to make the stems. We got to use a yard stick to measure and talked about inches and centimeters. Since we live in Korea, we measured ourselves in centimeters. Zachary was the tallest and baby Esther was the smallest. Mrs. Jennifer put our flowers together. We sure do make a beautiful bunch of sunflowers.

SEW cuties

These girls are ready for SEW too! :) You just can't get much cuter than that. :)

Praise Team

The one thing that the kids really enjoyed about SEW was the music. They came back singing every day. It was so much fun to hear their little voices praising God. Mrs. Moni gave us a CD of all the songs that they sand at SEW so we get to have praise and worship time in the ELC. The kids decided to make a stage and an audience all while fighting over who would be Ms. Christine or Ms. Laura or John's mom. Here are some videos for you to enjoy.

SEW 2010- Day 2

We love to sing the songs for SEW! They are so fun!
Pre-K got to be a part of a ban-aid game. They had to hold up their thumb while the big kids put on a bandaid.

Our story for the morning was the Good Samaritan. We acted it out in the classroom. Here Yong Suk is the Levite passing by Seth, the wounded.
Zachary awaits as the innkeeper.

The Good Samaritan Ruthy, wraps the wounded's arm.

The priest, the Levite, and the Good Samaritan wait in the wings.

The wounded resting at the inn.

We talked about what it means to be kind to our friends, family, and people we don't even know. The kids came up with many good ideas on how to be kind and now we can put them into practice! We are going to take it in and live it out!

At center time, the kids kept playing the Good Samaritan story and wanted Mrs. Jennifer to be the wounded for them to take care of. They did a great job showing her kindness. They brought her pillows and blankets, food to eat (yummy donuts and soup and don't forget the bacon!), change her bandages, ...

...and even read Mrs. Jennifer stories while she rested. What a great way to practice kindness!

Check us out dancing and singing during large group time. We do a great job trying to keep up with the motions.

SEW 2010- Day 1

Don't we look great in our SEW shirts?
On day one, we learned about the wise man and the foolish man. We learned that we should build our house upon the rock, Jesus. We built houses out of clay to remind us to build our lives on what really counts.

We had fun with the leftover clay and made some abstract art.

For snack we built houses out of crackers, cream cheese, and pretzels.

Delicious!

Flower Investigation

We were scientists on Tuesday and went out to explore the flowers around the ELC. We found flowers of different colors and sizes. We even used magnifying glasses to look closely at the flowers. We were very careful not to pick any flowers with bees.
(Sorry about the smudges on the pictures. It took me awhile before I figured out it was on the lens not the display screen.)

After we gathered our flowers, we sorted them by color and talked about how they looked different.

Flower Fun

For the next two weeks, we are learning about flowers with a little of SEW mixed in the middle. One of our goals is to learn about the four major parts of the plant; the flower, stem, leaves, and roots. Here are a few of the activities we've done so far this week.

Zachary and Seth are matching A-Z flowers to the pot with the picture that starts with that letter.

The kids have enjoyed picking the dandelions outside so we decided to paint with them. We drew the stems and leaves first and then used the flower to paint on top. They turned out beautiful!

At center time, Yong Suk practiced counting with sunflower seeds. See he counted 4 seeds on his sunflower to match the card he pulled!

A few of us played a game where we each pulled a card and the counted out sunflower seeds. We then saw who had the smallest number and who had the biggest number. Sometimes we even had a tie!
